Happy Phrases For Kids.

✨It’s a new week. A new month.

Recently, I’ve made a mental note to say more than a passing positive comment or compliment to my kids. Not passively, but rather, paying more attention to the moment eg the activity or the achievement (or issues) of the day. I desire that ‘the art of being present’ goes beyond just being alive and in their lives.

✨Not sure how I started or what reminded of this. Perhaps because life as an international medical graduate (IMG) in the UK has been so busy lately, I wonder… feel guilty even… if I’ve not paid enough attention to our emotional health as a family. Or perhaps I had missed lots of connection and bonding time, which often lead to teaching moments 🫢 After reminding myself, and in what little or big way I can, I’ve taken a bit more time to be present, ask a bit more questions and show a bit more interest… before life gets busy again.

As AfroUK parents, we juggle the joys and challenges of parenthood, migration, work and keeping up with the ever demanding and changing world. How do we find the connection we need with our growing children? Now, it can be as standard as prayer time, family meeting or day outing. It can be a 1-1 or a short family walk to the shop down the corner. I do my best to do all these things, when I can, no matter how little. I’m also choosing to be more mindful & artful with my words.
